Abstract

This book deals with the ecological and biological characteristics of wetlands. In general, based on the scientific studies this book attempts to evaluate the optimal habitats for various plant and animal species in wetlands using ecological models. Based on this, it is possible to properly manage the habitats of wetlands and the ways to prevent their destruction. This book has been compiled in several different chapters. Among the important topics in this book are the following: the distribution of wetlands in the world, the different values of these unique ecosystems, the classification and typification of wetland types, wetland production and fertility, wetland soil types, changes and succession in wetlands, types of pollutants including agricultural, thermal, pollution, the phenomenon of eutrophication in wetlands, biological magnification and their impact on the food chain/web of these ecosystems, the diversity and introduction of important native and invasive plant and animal species in wetlands, indicator species, the study of plant and animal habitats, the study of abiotic factors in wetlands such as element cycling, the use of ecological models for wetland management, important criteria for the eligibility of wetlands of international value based on the Ramsar Convention. Finally, a brief explanation is provided to the country's internationally important wetlands listed on the Ramsar Convention website.
