Understanding Coatings Raw Materials intends to provide a comprehensive overview of the raw materials used in contemporary paints and coatings.<br />Significant advances have been made in the field of polymeric materials and coatings during the past few decades. Ever since the negative impacts of solvent based coatings on the environment and human health were recognized, the coating industry has been striving not only to address these impacts but also to offer better performing products to meet the ever growing demands to decorate, protect, and provide new functionalities to surfaces. This has led to the emergence and commercialization of such advanced technologies as waterborne coatings, high-solid coatings, powder coatings, radiation curable coatings, and bio-based as well as nanomaterial based coatings, to name a few. The raw materials used in today’s<br />advanced coatings are incredibly diverse and innovative compared to those used a few decades before. Understanding this growing palette of coating raw materials and their specific roles and interactions<br />with each other is increasingly challenging, both for new entrants as well as those already working in the coating industry. صنعت پوشش دارای مواد خام بسیار متنوع بوده و از طیف گسترده ای از این مواد خام، از مواد معدنی نسبتاً ارزان تا پلیمرها و رنگدانه ها با کارایی بالا و افزودنی های تخصصی بسیار مهندسی شده استفاده می کند. کتاب شناخت مواد اولیه پوشش ها در نظر دارد یک مروری جامع از مواد اولیه مورد استفاده در پوشرنگ ها و پوشش های معاصر ارائه دهد.<br />پیشرفت های قابل توجهی در زمینه پوشش ها و مواد پلیمری در چند دهه گذشته صورت گرفته است. از زمانی که تاثیرات منفی پوشش‌های پایه حلال بر محیط‌زیست و سلامت انسان مشخص شد، صنعت پوشش‌ نه تنها برای رفع این تاثیرات تلاش می‌کند، بلکه تلاش می‌کند تا محصولاتی با عملکرد بهتر برای برآورده کردن نیازهای روزافزون برای تزئین، محافظت و قابلیت های جدید برای سطح ارائه دهد. این امر منجر به ظهور و تجاری‌سازی فناوری‌های پیشرفته‌ای مانند پوشش‌های پایه آب، پوشش‌های با محتوای جامد بالا، پوشش‌های پودری، پوشش‌های قابل پخت با تابش، و پوشش‌های بر پایه مواد زیستی و همچنین پوشش‌های بر پایه نانومواد شده است. مواد خام مورد استفاده در پوشش‌های پیشرفته امروزی در مقایسه با مواردی که چند دهه قبل استفاده می‌شد، بسیار متنوع و نوآورانه هستند. درک این توسعه و رو به رشد مواد خام پوشش‌ و نقش‌های خاص آن‌ها و برهمکنش های آنها با یکدیگر به طور فزاینده‌ای، هم برای تازه واردها و هم برای کسانی که قبلاً در صنعت پوشش کار می‌کنند چالش برانگیز است.
